What’s trending: how to design the bed of your dreams

Bed design ideas

March marks National Bed Month, so what better time to design the ultimate restorative sleep experience than now?

On average, we spend around a third of our lives in bed (and I don’t think that includes those lazy Sundays we all need from time to time), so your sleep set-up should feel like a comforting cocoon. But if you don’t know where to begin designing the bed of your dreams, we’ve got you covered.

From determining the size of your bed frame and considering the tension and fillings of your mattress, to finding the right headboard, here, we’ve compiled a complete guide to help get you started.

Also on my radar…

A slightly overlooked aspect of designing the bed of your dreams is the pillow. I remember back in 2022 when editor Georgina and I visited a variety of showrooms for one of her magazine features. Beyond testing and resting on a range of mattresses, one expert pointed out that the pillow should also be carefully considered, because it is like the mattress for the head. Which is such a great way to look at this key element of your sleeping experience.

Luckily, Georgina has put together her top tips on picking the right pillow, so click here to explore the edit.

Is it a usual cupboard or an undercover fridge? With bespoke design, you can include Narnia-style doors that lead to adjoining pantries or utility rooms, or even conceal industrial-looking appliances, for a clean, uninterrupted look.

Semi-open shower rooms with striking pony walls are on the rise. This design oozes a boutique feeling, from the navy metro tiles, gold fittings and fixtures, to the classic panelling.

I love when interior design caters to every family member – furry friends included. This charming laundry room includes a cleverly integrated pull-out drawer, which houses pet bowls, into the classic cabinetry.
