Into the wild
In love with maximalism? Go all out with a design oozing surrealism and panache. Match flower-patterned bedding like the Opera Botanica Opal from Timorous Beasties in collaboration with Ashley Wilde, with a clashing yet equally majestic floral rug that blends into herringbone flooring underneath.
“This linen’s fluid florals complement the warmth of timber flooring,” says Simon Brodin, CEO of Ashley Wilde. “Soft blush and smoky tones from the bedding are mirrored in the pattern beneath, with the well-chosen rug helping to anchor the scheme; it frames the bed and softens the transition between the bold artistry of the linen and the clean lines of the wooden floor. This layered approach creates a tactile environment that feels both grounded and indulgent.”

Beautifully tactile bedroom floors
For a bedroom that looks and feels lush, make sure to incorporate soft, lavish furnishings and warm, tactile carpets and rugs, all in muted or earthy colour tones. Below, a velvet bed in a rich mocha hue has been matched with a khaki bouclé cushion, flower-printed quilt, and neutral sheer curtains, while a quietly prominent green wool rug animates the floor and ties the palette together.

“A classic design, this rug, in a deep pile, brings in so much texture,” says Lucy Hewson, rug buyer at John Lewis. “The avocado shade adds warmth and colour, while the natural texture of the wool lends an extra tactile element to the look and feel of the room, and complements the velvet bed.”
Borderline gorgeous
Turn your minimalist bedroom into a snug retreat by breaking up a cream-based palette with a couple of vibrant patterns. And for a captivating finishing touch, why not introduce a carpet with a border? It will help define your bed zone while giving it some bonus charm points.
“Sticking with a neutral tone on the carpet provides the perfect base to layer a cosy rug. For a burst of colour, consider adding a border; it’s a great way to incorporate a complementary shade or highlight a colour already featured in your scheme,” says Kirsty Barton, brand storytelling manager at Alternative Flooring. “If pattern is missing, a beautiful herringbone, stripe, or check adds interest, or choose a plain border to complement existing artwork and designs.”

Cottagecore chic
Embrace the farmhouse look by opting for soft colours and organic materials, such as the ones chosen in this bedroom. “There’s something so grounding about the combination of textures in this room,” says Jessica Hanley, founder and CEO of Piglet in Bed. “The terracotta flooring and woven jute rug bring a lovely, earthy warmth that perfectly complements the rustic charm of the striped linen bedding. Together with the exposed wooden beam, they create that effortless farmhouse feel – relaxed, inviting, and full of character.”

Meanwhile, the Rhubarb & Rose Pembroke Stripe linen bedding by Piglet in Bed completes the rustic look, while its long, dramatic headboard effortlessly brings a modern element into the design. “It’s the kind of space that feels like it’s evolved naturally over time, rather than being overly styled,” adds Jessica.
Regencycore opulence
Chintz florals are gaining ground, and the floor can be a top spot to experiment with dainty motifs that will envelop your room in character. Brintons’ Golden Effie carpet, from its Brintons x Timorous Beasties collection, exudes regal charm, celebrating the delicate florals once seen in wallpapers and furnishings in the Regency era – with this décor clearly enjoying a renaissance.
“Using a patterned carpet in your bedroom adds an unexpected touch, often becoming a standout feature of the room,” says Jodie Hatton, design manager at Brintons. “Take this Golden Effie design, for example. Its golden tones and intricate details bring depth and drama to what’s typically a calm, pared-back space. The contrast between the ornate pattern and softer furnishings creates a balance that feels layered and quietly luxurious, rather than busy. This serves as a reminder that flooring can be a design statement in its own right, grounding the space while adding warmth, personality, and a touch of individuality.”

Mild chevron
Much like herringbone, a classy chevron pattern can add depth and interest to your floor; having the planks meet to form a continuous V shape helps a neutral bedroom look refined but also characterful. Just like this space, which was completely reconfigured by Pfeiffer Design. Every element, including the pale chevron floor, was chosen carefully to optimise light, space, and everyday living.

“The intricate pattern of the warm, chevron oak flooring in the bedroom sets the tone by adding richness and sophistication – helping to anchor the interior with a sense of movement and softness,” says Jenna Forsdyke, senior interior designer at Pfeiffer Design.
“Whether a herringbone or chevron pattern, parquet flooring is fluid, pairing beautifully with an array of interior styles. To introduce light into cosier rooms, for example, choose a lighter wood and combine it with neutral walls to help reflect the light and evoke the feeling of space.”
Textured LVT flooring
Wood-effect LVT flooring is the best way to imitate the visual appeal of wood without all the upkeep hassle. Use it in a bedroom designed around neutral tones and earthy finishes, such as this one, to introduce a bit of comfort. The bleached blonde and honey tones of Pale Limed Oak from Karndean’s Knight Tile collection are ideal for bringing warmth and light, while a laying pattern like the above will add subtle interest.
“Here, laying the planks in the same direction as the neutral panelling and brown headboard creates a harmonious flow, visually elongating the space and reinforcing a calm aesthetic,” says Claire Ryan, PR and digital manager UK at Karndean Designflooring. “The wider 36×6” planks (pictured below) emphasise this effect, while the smaller 18×3” option adds a more detailed, textured look – both perfectly complementing a layered, neutral bedroom design.”
