Striking amber marble streaks and bronze details infuse texture into this soft-palette bathroom. Fancy a tour?
Content creator Victoria Magrath and her husband, Alex, left London for the English countryside in 2019, in search of more square footage and an outdoor space, so they could bring a dog into the family. Their wish came true when they made this Georgian-style, detached property (built in the early ‘00s) their new home. Soon after, they were joined by Boe, a Miniature Long-Haired Dachshund. Here, we find out how the bathroom renovation came to be…

The plans
When they moved in, the couple had plans to renovate each room, and seeing as they both work from home – with Alex working alongside Victoria as a photographer and video editor – they needed to ensure each space was right for both home and work life. “Not the easiest feat but we’ve achieved what we set out to complete,” says Victoria. “We currently utilise three rooms as bedrooms; one is our master suite and two are guest bedrooms.”
Having already made some decorative changes, the couple decided to rework the entire bathroom in the master suite, about a year ago. “We reached out to Simply Bathrooms & Interiors as they were the most recommended team, with some wonderfully positive experiences,” she notes.

The brief for the bathroom renovation
The design brief was to transform the ensuite into a luxurious, spa-like space with a more practical layout. “It needed to feel uplifting and elegant, but also serve as a highly functional backdrop for Victoria’s work, enhancing the look and feel of her videos,” says Simply Bathrooms designer Sophie Harrold.
To give a sense of tranquility, the former white paint was swapped for a softer palette. And, even though the walls couldn’t be moved, clever planning helped to unlock more space and light. Essentially, the shower enclosure was turned into a more open walk-in wetroom with a black-framed screen, while every other piece in the room was moved.

“This purposeful movement gave us extra floor space and a much-longed-for, spa-like ambience,” explains Victoria. At the same time, Sophie introduced a more lavish, fitted, marble-clad bath. “For such a statement feature, I wanted a robust, high-quality undermount model, and Bette, with its glazed titanium steel construction, was the clear choice,” she says.

Another key objective was to reposition the WC so it no longer sat directly in the doorway, while also enlarging the vanity for Victoria to be able to display and film beauty products. For the vanity, designed by Simply Bathrooms and manufactured by Parker Howley & Co., Sophie opted for a darker wood stain, using wider cock-beading around the doors to soften the look.
The result is a quietly rustic piece that ties the whole scheme together. “I fell in love at first sight with it – the walnut wood fits beautifully with the warmer tone of the room,” says Victoria.

The striking marble
Still, the most striking feature has to be the marble. Initially, Victoria was drawn to a Viola option, but it felt a little overpowering. Then, Sophie found out Ca’ Pietra was about to unveil a new Ottoman marble. “It sounded like the perfect fit, so Victoria, Alex, Boe, and I headed over to Ca’ Pietra’s marble yard to view the slabs in person. Seeing the stone first-hand and holding it alongside our chosen brassware finish really brought the design together.”
Sophie worked with a local fabricator to have the marble templated on site and manufactured to match the bathroom’s design. “Its stunning shades of espresso and amber are truly so unique,” says Victoria. Meanwhile, dark bronze brassware complements the veining of the marble, while terracotta flooring completes the retreat-style design and warm palette.

So what does Victoria feel about their new ensuite? “I just adore it. Our aim was to create a space that we looked forward to using and that’s exactly what was delivered, with the combination of luxurious materials, perfect lighting, and statement pieces. We now have a gorgeous bathroom flowing from our master suite – it’s an ideal space to decompress in after a long workday.”
