Why floral patterns are blooming in popularity in interior design

Floral patterns 2026

From delicate to dramatic, the latest floral patterns are sure to turn your home into a proper garden…

Floral patterns are nothing new… But don’t you find it wonderful how they keep reinventing themselves year after year? Flowery prints are once again taking over our spaces, whether in the form of bedding, pillows, and upholstered armchairs, or bold wallpaper designs, romantic sink skirts, and even playful oven gloves.

Going hand in hand with the Regency interiors’ revival, florals have the power to feel both dainty and nostalgic, and other times all-consuming and larger than life.

How to introduce blooming floral patterns to your home

Whether you’re going for a vintage, romantic design or a more contemporary option, the past can be an excellent source of inspiration. Look to grand historic mansions, period TV shows like Downton Abbey and Bridgerton, or even 17th-century chintz cotton fabrics that are currently having a moment.

If it’s the latter you’re aiming for, Ashley Cooper, marketing director at Triton Showers, advises: “Start by creating the perfect colour palette with soft, pastel hues, such as pale pinks, yellows, and muted blues. Then pair this base with floral prints in the form of wallpaper or artwork, for a feminine, romantic feel.”

And if a modern, immersive, or edgier look is your preference, try experimenting with oversized florals. “This season’s patterns are leaning more towards larger, more expressive blooms with room to breathe. Expect to see more exploration of scale and composition, helping highlight the natural beauty of every petal and stem,” says Helen Ashmore, head of design at Laura Ashley. “It’s about thoughtful design, with florals that feel confident yet composed, nostalgic but fresh.”

As for the prints’ colour combinations, Helen recommends balancing softer hues such as sage, blush, and sky blue, with grounded olives, mochas, and burgundies.
