Once a recording studio where iconic British musicians played, this ensuite design is just as glamorous as the property’s former guest list.
Formerly known as Jacobs Recording Studios, this grand Georgian home near Farnham has a lot of history with artists such as Robbie Williams, Oasis, and David Bowie. However, while it’s had many glamorous guests, the once residential studio – which was closed and sold in the early 2000s – needed some TLC by the time its latest homeowners moved in not so long ago. Which is why the family of four, including Ben, Marie, Grace, and Sebastian, decided to renovate the property to make it their own. Here, we talk to Marie to find out more about the ensuite design…

The ensuite design
When it came to their ensuite, Marie was looking for something luxurious. “I met with bathroom designer Jo Wilkinson and discussed my design inspiration and how I wanted the room to look and feel,” explains Marie. “She came up with the layout of having the double-entry shower and placing the bath in front of the pony wall, as this was a great use of space and made the room feel more opulent.”
Marie’s brief was for a calm, neutral, and timeless design with a classic look. “There also had to be no real marble, so it would be low maintenance,” she says. “I wanted to incorporate a sauna into the room, too, so we transformed the old walk-in wardrobe that has stunning views across the fields.”

The layout
But first, they had to sort out the original configuration, which didn’t make the best use of the large room. “We had to rip out all the stud walls, fixtures, and fittings, and take up all the flooring. The joists were rotten and all needed reinforcement.”
The new layout is simple, but makes the bathroom very spacious, says Marie. “It also means that the boat bath painted in Farrow & Ball’s Pavilion Gray became a focal point from the bedroom to the bathroom.”

Reflecting on the ensuite design now it’s complete, Marie summarises, “This bathroom is a luxurious space with a refined classic and modern aesthetic. It has clever zoning for bathing and showering, while blending luxury, functionality, and thoughtful design – we love it.”
