Curious about what colours are trending for Autumn Winter 2025? Here is what’s predicted to be big this season…
The cosy and cocooning ‘ber’ months (you know, September, October etc.) are upon us, and soon enough, it will be time to retire the saccharine shades of summer and welcome darker, moodier hues instead. If you’re keen to find out which colour palettes are going to be popular this Autumn and Winter 2025 season, we’ve asked the experts for their predictions.
“Thinking beyond neutrals and exploring palettes inspired by nature’s quieter moments will be key,” Anna Hill, brand director and colour consultant at Fenwick & Tilbrook, tells me. “Earthy ochres, soft clays, smokey blues and forest greens will all be prominent in evoking those beautifully misty mornings and evenings by the fire.”
Sue Jones, co-founder of Oka, also believes rich, grounding tones will be popular. “Think deep ochres, warm burgundies, and opulent blues, that echo the natural shift into autumn. These colours have a way of anchoring a space, whether they appear in playful stripes or hand-painted finishes.”
Ready to dive deeper into the Autumn Winter 2025 colour trends? Let’s begin…
Autumn sunset
This colour palette feels like a sunset on a chilly autumn day – warm, cosy, and nostalgic. “This season’s stand-out colour trend is all things pumpkin spice – a palette of rich, warming tones inspired by autumn leaves, firelight and the comforting glow of golden hour,” says Helen Shaw, director of marketing (international) at Benjamin Moore. From sun-baked terracotta, muted orange, to soft amber, these hues are ideal for adding warmth to your space.
Anna agrees and adds, “Perfect for creating cosy kitchens, really snug living rooms or a truly inviting hallway, these nostalgic hues wrap your home in a comforting glow that will linger throughout the darker months.”
Moody greens and blues
Dusky blues bring a touch of nature and serenity in this Autumn Winter 2025. “At the heart of the trend are shadowy teals, complex blues and softened mauves. These shades have an almost moody quality about them, creating a sense of atmosphere and depth that feels both timeless and forward-looking,” says Helen.
But deep shades of green will be equally sought after this season. “Ranging from sage, olive and lichen, these soft, muted tones help to create a timeless and serene backdrop that still feels fresh,” explains Anna. “Ideal for bedrooms, bathrooms or any space that you want to transform into a quiet retreat, these shades capture that stillness of forest walks and the softness of shady woodland.” She recommends pairing these hues with natural, tactile materials ‘to add depth and create a harmonious look that doesn’t overwhelm the senses’.
Wine
Red is predicted to be one of the most popular colours of the season, but not just any shade – renovators will particularly lean towards dark cherry and romantic wine tones. “Ideal for adding a sense of drama, deep reds and wine-tone hues bring style and sophistication to any interiors,” says Anna. “These luxurious shades create an enveloping atmosphere that’s full of depth and perfect for transforming a space into an intimate environment. Perfect for dining rooms or cosy corners, these colours will lend a touch of opulence whilst still remaining warm and welcoming.”
Chalky tones
Jewel tones are ever popular during autumn and winter, but here comes the twist. “This season, they appear chalky, muted or matt; think dusky garnets, stormy sapphires and mossy emeralds,” says Helen.
And surprisingly, spring and summer’s shades are also present during the cold season. “Soft pinks and pale blues reappear with greater saturation and contrast, lending a fresh energy to autumnal pairings,” adds Helen. “When teamed with deep rusts, merlot reds and burnished metallics, these lighter tones are delicate yet grounded, playful yet poised.”
Cocoa
Lastly, ‘cocoa’ is John Lewis’ colour of the Autumn Winter 2025 season – decadently rich, versatile and exuding a sumptuous feeling, use it in big or small doses to make your space feel like a calming cocoon.
So, which colour will you be embracing?
