Recycled furniture is growing in popularity – here’s why

Recycled furniture

Being eco-conscious, in my opinion, has never looked so good. This is because I’ve recently discovered some of the latest furniture releases have something in common – they’re all made from recycled bits and bobs.

Sustainability is on everyone’s minds right now (and if it’s not on yours, then why not?). Interiors brands are finally realising they need to do more. And thankfully, what they’ve come up with would be beautiful, recycled additions to any style of home.

Why now, I hear you ask? A concept similar to fast fashion, disposable décor is currently a big problem affecting interiors – and becoming an increasing environmental problem, too.

Spa like bathroom with fluted wood tiles, wood furniture, recycled basins, circular mirrors and black brassware.
100% recycled ceramic washbasin, in the rectangular ‘TV’ shape, made using broken and discarded ceramics, along with other waste materials from the manufacturing process that would typically end up in landfill, £385, from VitrA.

According to a 2025 survey of 2000 people conducted by rubbish removal provider Hippo, a quarter of UK adults replace a piece of furniture at least once a year – with most of it ending up in landfill.

So, if you’re looking for your next chair, basin or lamp – and want to help save the planet one furniture-purchase at a time – why not go one step further and look for fixtures and fittings that are made out of recycled materials.

For instance, did you know that you can get worktops made out of recycled glass, wall lights created from obsolete CD cases, rugs from recycled PET yarn, or washbasins made from discarded ceramics?

Here, I’ve put together a collection of recent launches that have caught my eye, which will not only make a statement in your home, but help look after the planet as well. I mean, we only have one, don’t we…
